In many countries,
movies are rated.
A letter or number
shows if a movie is
OK for young children,
teenagers, or adults
only. For example,
Rated G in the United
States or U in Britain
means a movie is OK
for all ages.
A. In your country, are movies rated? What different ratings are used?

Some American films distributed overseas have
ratings on them. In other places, local censors
decide on ratings or who can view the film.
B. Look at the chart. These are American movie ratings. Are the ratings in your country the same? Discuss with a partner.
G | General
PG | Parental guidance
PG-13 | Parental guidance for children under 13
R | Restricted (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian)
NC-17 | No children under 17
